FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Short answers about how the free online video editor works, what it can export, and how your data is handled.

Is Sleek Editor really free?

Yes. Sleek Editor is completely free to use. There is no install, no subscription and no export limit. The project is supported by unobtrusive ads shown on the dashboard and occasionally in the editor, so you never have to pay to edit video.

Does my video get uploaded to a server?

No. Sleek Editor is fully client-side: your video, audio and image files are read directly from your disk by your own browser and never leave your device. Projects and media are stored locally in your browser (localStorage and IndexedDB), which is also why the editor works offline after the first load.

Do I need an account to use it?

No. You can start editing immediately without signing up. Accounts are optional: you can create a local account (email + password) or use Continue with Google, and both live only in your browser — nothing is sent to any server.

What formats and resolutions can I export?

Exports are handled by your browser's native hardware-accelerated encoder: MP4 (H.264) where supported, otherwise WebM (VP9/VP8). You can pick 480p, 720p, 1080p, 1440p or 4K (2160p), 24/30/60 fps, a quality bitrate, and toggle the audio track. There is also a one-click PNG export for the current frame.

Can I add animated text, transitions and effects?

Yes. Text clips support full typography (font, size, weight, color, stroke, shadow, background) with per-parameter keyframes and an easing editor with easing curves. The timeline supports A/B transitions between clips, and clips can take parameterized effects such as shake, flicker, glitch, breathe, pixelate, vignette, scanlines, grain and letterbox, plus color wheels (lift/gamma/gain/offset).

Which aspect ratios are supported?

New projects can be 16:9 landscape, 9:16 portrait (for Shorts, Reels and TikTok), 1:1 square, 4:3 standard or 21:9 cinematic. The preview and the export canvas always follow the project aspect ratio.

Can I edit on my phone or tablet?

The editor is designed for desktop browsers where the multi-track timeline, keyboard shortcuts and right-click menus work best. It opens on mobile devices, but for any serious editing a desktop or laptop with a mouse is strongly recommended.

Where are my projects saved and can I lose them?

Projects autosave every 60 seconds to your browser's local storage, and you can save manually with Ctrl/Cmd+S. Because storage is per-browser, clearing your browser data or using private/incognito mode will remove saved projects, so keep important media files backed up on your disk.
